About EMDR

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a structured therapy that helps the brain reprocess distressing memories. Rather than requiring detailed retelling, it uses brief attention to the memory alongside bilateral stimulation. Most people notice that the memory becomes less charged and less intrusive over time.

Understanding Trauma

Trauma lives in the nervous system as much as in memory. Reactions that feel irrational often make sense as protection learned under real threat. Understanding this can reduce shame and open the door to different choices.

Understanding Dissociation

Dissociation exists on a continuum, from ordinary daydreaming to significant gaps in memory and identity. It is a survival response, not a character flaw. Care focuses on safety, functioning, and internal communication rather than on eliminating parts of self.

Online information about dissociation can vary widely in quality. These resources are provided for education and are not intended to diagnose DID, OSDD, or another dissociative disorder.

Couples & Relationships

Relationship distress is often less about a lack of love and more about patterns of disconnection, protection, and unmet attachment needs. These resources can help couples better understand emotional connection, recurring cycles, and the role of attachment in relationships.

Faith & Trauma

Optional faith-integrated resources

For some people, faith and spirituality are important parts of healing after trauma. The resources below offer Christian perspectives that may complement counseling when spiritual integration is meaningful to you. These resources are optional and are not required as part of treatment at Flourish.

Relationship resources are intended for generally safe relationships. When coercion, intimidation, emotional abuse, physical violence, or other safety concerns are present, traditional couples strategies may not be appropriate. Individual support and safety planning may be needed first.
